OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – The Oshkosh Area Humane Society recently took in a stray dog named Hamlet, who was nursing a serious leg injury, and needed help raising money for his surgery.
Within 24 hours of posting on Facebook, Hamlet’s story was enough to inspire the community to step up, as the Oshkosh Area Humane Society announced on Thursday that they had already reached the fundraising goal.
“We are so grateful to our community of supporters,” the post said. “We have met our fundraising goal for Hamlet’s leg surgery!”
Originally, Hamlet was brought in and the Oshkosh Area Human Society determined he had likely been in the cold for a while, and likely was injured or had some form of trauma evidenced by a road rash and body wounds. Hamlet was also found to be about 30 pounds underweight.
A local emergency veterinarian determined through exams and X-rays that he likely needed a surgical consult. Through this, it was found that Hamlet had back leg fractures and ligament damage, causing him great pain just by walking.
The surgery is an urgent need and costs about $9,500.
Fortunately, that money has been secured; thus, Hamlet will soon be able to walk without pain and finally get rid of his cone and boot bandage!
